My first project was studying, analyzing and applying information aboutAncient Ethiopia to create a poster. We were able to work in groups of four to completethe poster, bible, visuals and anything else we chose to create to receive a better grade.Overall, I did enjoy this project because, it was fun to make the poster and towork together as a group. I didn't like the essay part, I thought that writing 17pages was too much. This caused us to repeat some of the information thatwe previously stated in our essay. This project was also fun to present infront of our classmates. You should give out this project again, because I learnedmore information about Ethiopia from completing this project, then from readinga page in the textbook. Moreover, this project had more positives then negatives for me!*Some of the work I am posting, will allow you to learn more about Africa, esp. Ethiopia*
The project that I had to complete for Europe was a Power Point presentation. Forour assignment, we had to break into groups of 1, 2, or 3 and we had to researcha revolutionary and modern day scientist. For my power point, I chose Isaac Newtonas the revolutionary scientist and Albert Einstein for my modern day scientist.Isaac Newton discovered the three laws of motion and was the original discovererof infinitesimal calculus. Albert Einstein created this math equation, e=mc^2 whichled to dropping the first atomic bomb. Not only did Einstein create this equation, hewas also involved in the Manhattan Project. This whole project was led in secrecy, the whole project revolved around whether or not, dropping the atomic bomb on Japan, to end World War II. Albert Einstein was against dropping the bomb, thinking it wouldaffect more than just Japan and those who we were targeting. However, we went againstAlbert Einstein and dropped the bomb. Overall, I wouldn't know any of this, if it weren't forthis project. This is how my Power point ended up looking:ALBERT AND ISAAC.pptx We also worked in groups, split up sections, and taught the class.. This was the quizI made up for my group:
The Middle Ages was a time of re-birth for Europe, which was recovering from the Dark Ages. The Dark Ages were when their were no new ideas brought up, no new inventions, NOTHING. Europe was in the dark, while other surrounding countries were blooming. This would change during The Middle Ages when Europe would discover some of the best artists, and astronomers of all times. One artist that stood out the most for me, was one that to this day is very well known and respected. Michelangelo is best known for the sculptor of David. This piece portrays the "perfect" man, which through the sculptor we can find realism in. One of the astronomers that stood out to me was also a physicist and mathematician. This was Isaac Newton and some of his greatest discoveries include, the laws of gravity and infinitesimal calculus. In the essays we had to write, you will find out more about those who made the Middle Ages such an important time period.
The Enlightenment occurred from the 1600-1700's spreading from Europe. Inventions blossomed; The Printing Press, scientists flourished; Copernicus, and ideas were being thrown left and right; John Locke, Thomas Hobbes. Beginning with the Printing Press, this machine changed Europe in many ways. Not only did it help print out copies of books much quicker and easier, it also helped students receive a better education. The Printing Press would allow universities to receive books for the students to use. Then, the scientists started emerging. One of these scientists were Mikolaj Kopernik. His theory of the sun being at the center of the Universe, was proven correct by Galileo; an astronomer. Lastly, came ideas from many men, two of them being John Locke and Thomas Hobbes. Both men had very different point of views, and totally different beliefs. John Locke believed people were good, he believed everyone was born with their own natural rights; life, liberty and property, and he also said that people should have a say in how their government was ran. On the other hand, Thomas Hobbes believed people were cruel, and didn't think that people should control the government. Hobbes wanted the government to make their choices and for the king and queen to be in complete control. Furthermore, Hobbes had a social contract which was an agreement between people and society. It pretty much told people what they were or weren't able to do. The essay we had to complete for the Enlightenment was a Reaction Paper which included a work sited page. (The project/essay is attached above).
For this project, we were assigned to pick a partner and a country in the Middle East. Along with my partner, we chose Tunisia because, it is where and when the revolutions in the Middle East began. In 2010, due to the fact that many citizens of Tunisia were upset with the way the government was running their country, a man by the name of Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire. He was a college graduate and the best job he was able to find was being a street vendor to support his family. Bouazizi got his unlicensed vegetable cart taken away from him by a policewomen, which Bouazizi did not find fair. This led to his self immolation act that spread through the Middle East involving many more countries such as, Yemen, Syria, etc. Tunisia was a big factor because it was where the rioting and actions took place first. Unlike many other countries, Tunisia began their rioting violently and took it upon themselves to get payback for Bouazizi's death. The government was shocked with the large number of citizens that began rioting which gave them no other choice but to be violent too. Police were more abusive then ever and used weapons, tear gas and even large, strong dogs. Today, Tunisia is still revolting against their government, but thanks to their efforts...
Tunisian citizens have more rights
The President stepped down and fled to Saudi Arabia
The Vice-President took over; Many citizens like him and his improvements for the country
Revolutions are almost like getting people together and forcing a change that the citizens don't agree with against the government. When thinking about a revolution, in my eyes there should be a positive outcome with people uniting and coming together. Over the many years of revolutions, something that one will notice is that to get to the positive outcome, you will loose many lives, many battles and you will experience tough times. The courage that citizens all over the Middle East show are truly astonishing due to the way they live, their environment, and their over controlling government. However, times like the revolution show the world how much we value ourselves as well as those around us. Together, everyone in the Middle East believes they can overcome every obstacle in their way to reach their ultimate goal... FREEDOM!
